Not to be morbid, but the day is coming for all of us. What fascinates me are the choices people make as the minutes tick down. I stumbled upon John Hartford's obituary the other day and one passage struck me,
"But when he learned several years ago that death was approaching, he became obsessed with practicing, returning to his first instrument, the fiddle. He realized that what had always attracted him to both riverboats and music was craftsmanship, and worked on becoming as good a craftsman as possible in the time he had left."
For whatever reason this made me happy. I suppose the realization of our death gives us permission to be who we really are. John was a fiddle player.
